Abandoned vehicles left on verges and streets make the streetscape look untidy and can be a safety hazard.
Vehicles on a verge must be actively driven and not stored for periods in excess of 24 hrs on a street or street verge.
If you locate an abandoned vehicle, please contact Ranger Services on 9273 6000.
Every attempt to locate the owner(s) of an abandoned vehicle is made including liaison with the Police for registration details and stolen vehicle information. The Town arranges for towing and impounding as a last resort.
If a vehicle has been abandoned on the Town's streets/verges for more than 48 hrs (or sooner if it poses a danger) and attempts to contact the owners are unsuccessful, the vehicle may be impounded at the Town's Impound Yard, Henderson Street in Redcliffe (Domestic Airport), for a period of at least 2 months (note that towing, administration and impound fees apply).
The following charges are imposed on abandoned vehicles:
- Impounding fee - $15 per day
- Towage - up to $100.00
- Administration fee - $50.00
If a vehicle is unregistered or the owner has not responded to any attempts of contact after two months, vehicles may be sold by tender or disposed of by other means. REVs checks are performed on all vehicles before they are advertised for public tender to ensure they are not encumbered. All tenders are:
- advertised in The West Australian
- displayed on the Town's public notice board at the Administration and Civic Centre.
