Nyoongar Patrol Outreach Service

The Town funds outreach and referral services primarily to indigenous people who sleep rough in parks within the Town.

The Town has been working closely with the Nyoongar Patrol to deliver the best possible service to the community.

In early 2006 the Town increased funding for the Nyoongar Patrol Outreach Services in recognition of its valued work in the community and its help in forging better understanding amongst residents, Town staff and Park dwellers. The Town now provides funding equivalent to the position of one full-time worker. Together with the Department of Indigenous Affairs the Town is the Patrols' major partner. The Town also provides the Patrol with a 2-way radio to enable communication with Town's Ranger Services Section.

In September 2000 the Nyoongar Patrol System commenced a service within the Town of Vincent to address the situation of Aboriginal people causing disturbances in Birdwood Square in Highgate. Within a short time of the patrol operating the problems reduced noticeably. The patrol hours have been adjusted to address the demand and are now operating Monday to Friday 1pm to 8.30pm.
