Frequently Asked Questions

Below are a number of common queries regarding the proposed redevelopment. If you have any other questions on the Concept Plans, please contact the Manager – Beatty Park Leisure Centre on 9273 6080 (Monday to Friday, during business hours) or email beattypark.redevelopment@vincent.wa.gov.au.

Why does the Centre need to be redeveloped?
Having been built in 1962, the Centre is now more than forty years old. The independent Needs Analysis conducted in 2004 highlighted the need for a redevelopment of the Beatty Park Leisure Centre to upgrade particular areas of the Centre to contemporary standards and community expectations for such facilities.

How is the redevelopment being funded?
Funding models are being investigated; however State and Federal Government funding would be sought for this iconic, heritage-listed facility.

Would any of Beatty Park Reserve be utilised?
No, the Centre would not encroach on any of the Reserve.

Would the change-rooms be renovated?
All of the Centre change-rooms would be renovated.

Would there be more family change-rooms?
There would be five additional family change-rooms installed on the north side of the leisure pool.

Why is the Crèche located where it is?
To provide maximum space for the expanded membership expected in the new facility.

Why is the Swim School located where it is?
Access to storage facilities and proximity to the indoor pool teaching areas.

What would happen to the grandstand?
The grandstand would be repainted, re-sealed and minor maintenance carried out to preserve its heritage value and make it safe to continue using.

How many trees would be removed?
In the current plan only one tree would be removed.

How many car bays would there be?
Approximately 350 to 400. Please note: the number of car bays are an approximation – the actual number of bays would depend upon the final design/plan.

Would the Centre have to close?
This would be determined once final plans are created and the building schedule is known. We would endeavour to limit any adverse impact on patrons as far as possible. However, visitor and employee health and safety would be a priority and this may lead to some inconvenience.

Would swimming lessons be interrupted?
This would be determined once the plans are finalised and a building schedule is in place.

Would I be able to suspend my membership for longer than is currently allowed or get a full refund?
Yes, options would be offered. More details would be available when the schedule of works had been determined.

Would the prices decrease if limited facilities are offered during the redevelopment?
There may be discounts offered on some services.

What equipment will be in the gym?
This would be determined at a later date. As there are plans for an improved gym it is anticipated that state-of-the-art equipment would be available to members based on their needs.

Would parking at the Centre remain free of charge?
This may be looked at as part of the financial planning process.

Would the prices increase after the redevelopment?
The pricing structure would be put in place at a later date. Our intention would be to do all possible to limit the impact of the redevelopment on patrons.

I live close to the Centre, would I be inconvenienced?
All relevant building requirements would be adhered to. Residents would be kept informed of any works that may impact them as the project progresses.

My sporting group/school has arrangements for events at the Centre, who can I talk to about this?
Please contact the Manager – Beatty Park Leisure Centre on 9273 6080 or beattypark.redevelopment@vincent.wa.gov.au.

Who could lease the new offices?
The offices would be available for lease by health/recreation industry associated businesses such as physiotherapists, nutritionists etc. The offices are not for general  business / commercial interests.

How can I register my interest in the professional suites?
Please contact the Manager – Beatty Park Leisure Centre on 9273 6080 or beattypark.redevelopment@vincent.wa.gov.au.

I represent a builder/developer, who can I talk to about any opportunities in the project?
Please contact the Manager – Beatty Park Leisure Centre on 9273 6080 or beattypark.redevelopment@vincent.wa.gov.au.

Would the new Centre be environmentally friendly/water wise/energy efficient?
Any redevelopment of Beatty Park would be cognisant of the Town’s Sustainable Environment Plan 2007-2012. The Centre has already commenced a number of initiatives to reduce its use of water and energy. These initiatives include the installation of water saving devices and the use of pool blankets to reduce the energy costs.

With any redevelopment of the Centre there would be significant focus on the sustainability aspect of the upgrade and the use of geo thermal techniques (the drilling of deep bores for the extraction of hot groundwater and the circulation of this water through heat  exchangers for energy use including pool heating) would be investigated.

When would the redevelopment commence?
If the Concept Plans proceed, the redevelopment is likely to commence in late 2009/early 2010.

How long would it take to complete?
It is anticipated that the redevelopment would take an estimated 12-18 months (this is of course subject to a number of factors).
