Local History Awards

The Town of Vincent is a vibrant, cosmopolitan and diverse community. As an inner city municipality the Town can boast a range of architectural styles representing various times in the State's development from early settlement to cutting-edge 21st Century design. Vincent is also the most culturally diverse local government in the State with residents from all corners of globe and places of worship for numerous faiths being represented. All these factors and more contribute to the need for the recording, preservation and celebration of this unique history and diversity.

Vincent's community includes a fascinating blend of the arts, culture, sport and recreation, entertainment and business. The Town has a dedicated Local Studies Librarian and an Oral Historian charged with helping to capture the essence of the Town from an historical perspective (forming the Local History Collection).  However, many stories have yet to be told and our residents and business proprietors, both past and present, hold a wealth of knowledge that deserves to be preserved for posterity. To help unearth this rich history, the Town holds the annual Local History Awards, encouraging the recording of various aspects of the 'life' of Vincent and contributing to the appreciation of heritage and local history in the Town.

The Local History Awards are held annually and are open to anyone who wishes to enter history relating to the Town. The Awards include categories for personal memoirs and written research biennially and photographic images annually. The Awards are advertised in the Vincent Library, the local media and on the Events pages of the website. Entry forms are available from June at the Vincent Library or from the Administration and Civic Centre. Entries need to be submitted by the end of August.
