CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT SEEDING GRANTS

Background

The Town of Vincent established the Cultural Development Seeding Grants as part of the development of the Town’s Community Identity Strategy.

The grants are to help non-profit community groups plan and carry out community-based cultural activities that express the different ways of life in the Town of Vincent.

Grants of up to $1,000 are available for cultural activities or performances that help people feel that they belong to the community of Vincent.

Projects must reflect some aspect of the Town’s culture, ethnicity, history and/or contemporary identity.

What will we fund?

Your project must do at least one of the following to be considered for funding:

  • Acknowledge and celebrate the backgrounds and ways of living of Vincent residents
  • Acknowledge and celebrate the geographic location of Vincent
  • Acknowledge and celebrate the history and significance of the buildings in Vincent
  • Introduce new cultural activity to Vincent
  • Support existing cultural activity in Vincent
  • Encourage young people to interact with each other and other residents and visitors in Vincent
  • Recognise and support Vincent residents’ involvement in the arts and humanities
  • Encourage more Vincent residents to be involved in arts and cultural activity in the Town.

What won't we fund?

  • Projects that don’t focus on Vincent’s people, places or activities
  • Projects that are mainly for fund-raising or making profits
  • Projects that benefit personal business aspirations
  • Projects that are singular, insular or of self-interest to you or your group and don’t involve other members of the community
  • Your group’s general operating or administrative costs
  • Purchase of machinery or other capital items
  • Projects that do not take place in the Town of Vincent
  • More than one project by your group in a financial year

How do we assess your application?

Assessment steps
Officers review your application and recommendations are made in the form of an agenda item for approval at the next Council meeting.

Questions we ask (the ‘selection criteria’)
All Seeding Grant applications that are eligible will be assessed by asking the following questions:

  • Is it possible to do the project?
  • Are individuals or groups involved who live or are based in Vincent?
  • Are all the budget details included?
  • Are others going to be funding the project as well as the Town of Vincent?
  • Does the project meet a need in the community and will locals benefit?
  • Does the project help more than just the people in your group?
  • Has your group had a Cultural Development Seeding Grant already this financial year?

You should make sure you answer these points in your application.

Other Important Points

  • Priority is given to groups that have never received a Seeding Grant.
  • Priority is given to projects that do not exclude or discriminate against people on the basis of religion, gender, race, sexual preference, or physical or intellectual ability; and which encourage wide involvement.
  • If your group is not incorporated a letter from an incorporated group which states that they will administer the money on your behalf must be provided in order to receive the grant.

How to make an Application for a Seeding Grant

You must complete the Cultural Development Seeding Grant Application Form and send it to us with any other material you think will help us to understand your project.  This information can be made available in alternative formats and languages for people with specific requirements.

Your application will be assessed and we will notify you of the outcome within six (6) to eight (8) weeks from when we receive it.

Conditions and Requirements

  • The project must be completed within twelve (12) months from when you receive the money.
  • If we give you a grant and you want to change major aspects of the project you must write to us and let us know. We will then consider whether the project still fits the aims of the grant.
  • You must acknowledge the Town of Vincent’s support of your project by displaying the Town’s logo on all promotional material such as flyers and posters.
  • We may want to reproduce pictures or written material from your project in our newsletter or other media. If we do so, we will acknowledge your group or the individuals who made the works. If we want to publish any of the images for profit we will negotiate this with you.
  • If we give you a grant, you will need to complete a Grant Acquittal Report and send it to us within four weeks of the project’s end. In the report you will need to tell us how you spent the money and whether the project did what you planned.

When are the grants available?

Applications are accepted throughout the year.

The total money available depends on how much the Town of Vincent allocates each year. However, individual grants are to a maximum of $1,000.

If your application is successful, your money will be available 8-10 weeks after we receive your application. You should not plan to start your project earlier than this as you may not have the money.
