Loftus Centre Redevelopment

The Town of Vincent is pleased to announce that approval has been given to begin the $13.6 million redevelopment of the Loftus Centre in Leederville.

With $3.7 million in funding from the State Government part of the Loftus Centre will be transformed into a state-of-the-art sporting facility and will house "the State Gymnastics Centre" – the new home of Gymnastics WA.

The Loftus Centre will be modified to become a centre of sporting excellence, which will also cater specifically for netball and other indoor sports. The improved Loftus Recreation Centre will include provision for a new Members Gymnasium Club.

The Centre redevelopment will also include the construction of a new Town Library (incorporating a Local History Centre), an expansion of the Community Centre, improved parking facilities and complete the landscaping of one hectare of Leederville Oval public open space. The new Centre will be a major attraction for the Town of Vincent and is designed to cater to the needs of the Town's diverse community.

Stage 1 works for new recreation halls, outdoor soccer pitch, underground car park, rhythmic gymnastics hall and library/local history centre will be completed by early 2008 and the internal refurbishment, new State Gymnastics Centre and Loftus Community Centre will be completed by mid 2008.

The redevelopment of the Loftus Centre is funded by the Town of Vincent, State Government (through the Department of Sport and Recreation) and private partnerships.

Loftus Centre Car Park Disruptions

Preliminary works commenced on the reconfiguration of the main car park area between the Loftus Centre and Richmond Street on Thursday 1 February 2007.

Unfortunately in order for the redevelopment works to be undertaken there will be disruptions to the parking at the Loftus Centre for the duration of the project.

The Town can appreciate the inconvenience to some patrons that the temporary closures of sections of the car park may cause, however the Town and the builders are doing all possible to minimise the impact upon Loftus Centre visitors and staff and attempting to keep as many bays as practicable available throughout the carefully planned stages of the redevelopment.

By the completion of the redevelopment there will be an increase in the number of parking bays available to patrons, including an underground car park, and the area will be visually appealing as well as a safe and practical area in which those who enjoy the Loftus Centre can park their vehicles.

In the interim, car park users who do not hold permits nor have been assigned bays are encouraged to check this site regularly for updates on up-coming works. It should be noted that time restrictions apply in the Loftus Centre Car Park (15 minutes, 90 minutes, 3 hours) and patrons who need to park for extended periods are encouraged to consider using alternative parking facilities including:

• Morrison Street, between Vincent Street and Farr Avenue
• The Len Fletcher Pavilion Car Park – at the eastern end of Richmond Street (Smith's Lake)
• Charles Veryard Reserve Car Park – on the south side of Bourke Street, between Kayle Street and Campsie Street
• Precinct Car Parks at The Avenue and Frame Court

The Town promotes and encourages the use of environmentally-friendly and efficient public transport and the also provides TravelSmart maps for those who wish to cycle or walk throughout the Town.

Should you have any queries regarding parking facilities please contact Ranger Services and Community Safety on 9273 6038.

We thank you for your patience and understanding and we look forward to unveiling the new Loftus Centre in due course.
