Our Town

The Town of Vincent Local History Centre has recently published Our Town: early photographs from the Town of Vincent Local History Collection. It was launched by Emeritus Professor Geoffrey Bolton on 2 May 2007.

It is a collection of photographs from between 1902 and 1962, featuring wonderful photographs that have come out of people’s homes in our community. Although photographs are the focus of the book, each photograph is accompanied by quotes from oral history interviews, which illustrate an aspect of the history it depicts.

This is an easy to read glimpse into the early life in our suburbs, which can be browsed through just to enjoy the photographs or read at random.

The book is available in two styles: a limited edition hard cover for $35 and the soft cover is $25.  Books can be purchased from the Vincent Library, Town of Vincent Administration Building or by mail using the order form.  Contact the Local Studies Centre on 9273 6534 for further details.

Media Room

The Library & Local History Centre has a Media Training Room that is available for hire.

With 10 computers, a whiteboard, a printer, a projector and a wireless keyboard, which is linked directly to the projector, for the trainer’s use the Media Room is an ideal location for your meeting/presentation.
 
The computers are loaded with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Flash Player. All computers have access to the Internet and all of the USB ports are enabled, as well as the CD/DVD drives.

Tea and coffee machine available within the Library.

Time availability: 9.00am–5.00pm, Monday–Friday (excluding Public Holidays)

Cost: $25 per hour or $12 for Community Groups

Grab a Bag!

The Library has introduced eco-friendly red carry bags. The bags have been a hit with members of the Library and at only $1.00 they are great value for money for those looking to shun flimsy plastic bags in favour of the sturdy, longer-handled eco-bags.

As part of a Statewide initiative the red "Resonate" bags have become a widely distributed eco-product throughout the library network in WA.

The vibrant red bags are part of the Resonate with Public Libraries project – promoting the objectives of inspiring, connecting, discovering and enriching which epitomises the concept of lifestyle libraries.
